May 7th, 2021 | Ryan Murphy

A jury of 12 women and men have found George Smith of Alliance guilty in the stabbing death of Stephen Oliver.

The jury began deliberations Thursday after multiple days worth of testimony, hearing evidence, and listening to witnesses.

Ultimately, they found Smith guilty of charges of Intentional Manslaughter and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a felony after hours of deliberation. The jury found there was NOT enough evidence to convict Smith on a higher charge of 2nd Degree Murder, which would’ve carried a minimum 20 year prison sentence.

The 68-year-old faces anywhere from 1 to 50 years in prison when he is sentenced by District Judge Travis O’Gorman on the class 2 and 2A felonies later this year.
