Two businesses that have been key to the success of Scottsbluff Public Schools the past few years were honored Wednesday afternoon as Friends of Education for the District.

Superintendent Rick Myles told the crowd that conversations nearly a decade ago with Aulick Industries, the 2020 recipient, really did lay the groundwork for the success of the career academies at the high school.

Accepting the award, Jake Aulick said the success has been a two-way street. “It was a lot of learning, but in the process of teaching the kids, you learn a lot about yourselves,” said Aulick. “But with our internship programs, the only reason this company has been able to grow at the rate that it has, adding a new facility that most of you have seen, is due to those programs, and we wouldn’t be having the success that we’ve had today.”

The 2021 Friend of Education is Allo Communications, who Myles said has been a big supporter over the years, and stepped up in a significant way as the pandemic took hold last year. “They contributed mobile hot-spots to dozens of families at no cost, they provided people free internet service for the duration of the pandemic, they sent technicians out to homes to do installations and provided equipment,” said Myles. “Without that, we could have never provided, in an equitable fashion, the remote education we provided for many, many families throughout the course of this year.”

The ceremony also honored retiring educators for the past two school years, as well as scholarship winners and other awardees.
