Scotts Bluff County is now officially seeking applications from those with the needed credentials interested in becoming the County Assessor.

Management Accountant Lisa Rien brought up the issue during Tuesday’s Commissioner’s meeting, saying now was the right time for the Board to try to fill the position.

Rien noted the steps taken to stabilize the office with the appointment of Jean Bauer as interim Assessor after the elected Assessor was forced out of the office due to a medical issue. “October 13, Angela Dillman did resign as the Assessor. And in the meantime, we’ve had Robert Simpson come on October 2 to be our office manager,” said Rien. “I guess we’re at a point now, we could probably post the job for interim assessor. We did this before when Amy Ramos resigned.

However, those interested in seeking appointment to the position, have a short window to apply, as the deadline is Feb. 28. Applications will be vetted by a committee including two Board members, and a recommendation is anticipated to be considered by the full Board during their first meeting in March.

The successful candidate would hold the office until the end of 2026, the same year the position comes up for election.

In other Board activity, the Commissioners agreed to set the week of July 8 to hear property valuation protests.
