Alliance opens State Tournament with two wins
August 2nd, 2021 | Chris Cottrell

The Alliance Spartans are off to a fast start at the Class B Legion State Baseball Tournament in Crete after wins over Arlington and Central City.

The Spartans were 3-2 winners on Saturday over Arlington and then yesterday it was a 8-2 win over Central City. Head Coach Carlos Palomo checked in this morning with a recap, “The first game a lot of jitters were displayed but yesterday (Sunday) a lot more loose and relaxed. Really playing our ball that we’ve been playing all year. We really take pride in our pitching and defense and that’s what’s kept us in the ballgames. We’ve had some really big, key timely hits.”

In yesterday’s win over Central City it was Jakob Callan giving the team six strong innings on the mound, he allowed two runs while walking six and also striking out six. Chase King shut the door in the seventh with a scoreless inning.

Alliance scored two in the second inning and it would stay 2-0 into the fifth when the Spartans scored three more runs. They got two of the three on a big swing of the bat, a two run homer for Caeson Clarke. Clarke, Mario Garza, and Brantz Halouska all recored two RBI games.

Now a day three matchup with Hickman (2-0) looms, “Hickman is the real deal. They can hit and they have multiple arms that are plus arms with velocity. Got to mix it up and play really good defense. Hopefully we can continue to do that and give us a chance.”

Tonight’s game starts at 7 pm central time.

If Alliance wins tonight they’ll play at 7 pm CT tomorrow night, if they lose tonight they’ll be back on the diamond tomorrow starting at 4 pm.
