Julie Ann was born November 14, 1998, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, to Marcos Betancourt and Julia Alfaro. She graduated from Gering High School and attended Western Nebraska Community College, where she would have graduated this December. She was a member of the Trio Club and the Multicultural Club.

Julie Ann enjoyed reading time piece novels, spending time with her “daughter”, Muffin, and family; although, if both were not invited, you’d get neither. She was always ready and happy to go along for a ride, especially if McDonald’s was on the way. She studied at WNCC and was in the process of achieving an associate’s degree to become a librarian. Her aspirations were right on track. She started at WNCC’s library as a work study and as her passions grew, she quickly achieved her goals and became a librarian. Legos, video games, slime, and fidgets are all things you would find in her space, as she enjoyed them greatly. She always looked to put a smile on loved ones’ faces, she would order presents months in advance, wanted the family altogether, and, if hosting, always have everyone’s favorite snacks on hand. Her all-time favorite thing was sleepovers with her cousins, where many stories were told over manicures, followed by games and movies. These were the best times.

Culinary arts were another passion, which she expanded by taking cooking classes. She was a speaker on CAPWN’s Youth Advisory Board and she was always eager to help people in need. Favorite artists were ABBA and Lil Dicky. Her grandfather, Pablo, was a very loving influence in her life, and he would regularly take her to their special restaurant, Asian Buffet. Julie Ann valued time with her grandfather above all and consistently sought out quality time with him. Her grandma, Marie, was certainly the inspiration to her love for arts and crafts, as she taught Julie Ann to knit while having the special chats only a grandma can have. This continued by her sending boxes of crafts she had thoughtfully made for her loving granddaughter. Julie Ann loved going to Texas on her summer vacations to spend time with grandparents and father—always looking for “Family Time!”

Most of all, she loved her independence and sharing the great love for everyone around her. Everyone who had the opportunity to have this beautiful soul in their life will forever carry on with the fond memories of how thoughtful she was and how to always put loved ones first and treat them with compassion.

Survivors include her mother, Julia (Rodney) Alfred; father, Marcos (Hope) Betancourt; grandparents, Pablo Alfaro Sr. (maternal) and Marie Camacho (paternal); numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles; and her beloved daughter, Muffin Betancourt.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Marcos Betancourt Sr.; maternal grandmother, Rosa Maria; maternal uncles, Guadalupe Alfaro Sr. and Vic Bechtold; and Noodles and Tiger Betancourt.
