Glenna Streeks

Glenna Streeks
October 8, 1929 - August 3, 2021

Glenna Streeks passed away peacefully at Regional West Medical Center on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 with all four of her children by her side.

Glenna was born October 8, 1929, in Banner County to Eddie and Mae Gulick. She was 1 of 6 sisters. She attended school in Flowerfield Rural School and graduated from Banner County High School in 1946, at the age of 16. On March 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to Bill Streeks in Gering, Nebraska. Her children Beverly (Bailey), Sharry (Soule), Lanette (Richards) and two years later, their only son Darrel was born. Looking back, that probably was an overwhelming time in her life – 4 children in 6 years and the oldest being only 6. Bill and Glenna raised their children in Banner County with all 4 graduating from Banner County High School, as their parents both did. In 2003, Bill was struggling with health issues, and a move to Gering was made. Bill passed away 3 months after the move. Glenna continued to live in the little home until her admission to the hospital on the 4th of July this year.

As anyone who knew our Mom, they could attest to her ability to organize to perfection. Being a very social person, she had several organizations she was passionate about. She was very involved in the Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary in Harrisburg and was one of several that compiled the Banner County Cookbook, of which hundreds if not thousands were sold. She also worked on the Banner County Alumni Committee, organizing several all school alumni. She loved to give tours of the Banner County Museum in Harrisburg and volunteered at the Museum during Flowerfield days.

Mom drove school bus and worked in the kitchen at the school while her children grew up. Then she and dad owned and operated the Village Inn Café in Harrisburg for 7 years. She loved serving and socializing with people, but the work was overwhelming and very demanding. They then sold the Café.

The thing that comes to mind when memories come to mind, was her ability to always see the best in everyone. She was a good listener and gave a tone of good advice. Her mind and her ability to remember phone numbers, addresses, and places and dates were phenomenal. Her family will definitely miss being able to call and ask for a birthday, phone #, or most anything else. She always said, that because of her limited eyesight, her brain was her computer. Another God-given gift was her ability to play the piano by ear. If you could hum a little of a tune, she could play it – absolutely amazing. There are many more attributes that could be added, but mom always said “Keep my obituary short and to the point.”

Mom is survived by her daughters Beverly Bailey of Gering, Shari Soule of Gering, and Lanette and husband Ray Richards of Scottsbluff; son Darrel and wife Karla Streeks of Gering; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. (5 generations) Mom also is survived her sister Janett Connour of Cheyenne, a very special Caregiver and kind of her 4th daughter Melissa Conn and her husband randy and many nieces and nephews.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Bill, son-in-law Earl Bailey, her sisters Maxine and husband Melvin Lanning, Imogene and Ralph Anderson, Donna and Bill Olsen and Janice and J.W. Snyder, brother-in-law Harold Connour and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters –in-law and her father-in-law George Streeks.
