Evelyn Blanch (Berglund) Hisel, 92, of Oshkosh passed away Friday evening, July 30, 2021, at the Regional West Garden County Nursing Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Oshkosh with Reverend Neil Carlson of the Chappell Zion Lutheran Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ash Creek Cemetery near Lewellen.  A dinner will follow at the Wesleyan Church west of Lewellen.

The funeral will be streamed live via the Holechek-Bondegard Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/hbfunerals) and available to watch after the service.

There will be no visitation and the casket will be closed.

Memorials in Evelyn’s name can be made to the family for later designation.

Evelyn was born April 30, 1929, in North Platte, Nebraska to Frank and Elsie (Hammond) Berglund.  She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.

She was a graduate of Garden County High School in Oshkosh and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Kearney State College.  She taught for 28 years in town and country schools.

She married Elton E. Hisel on June 8, 1956, in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.  They had a double wedding with her sister Ruth and William Hamilton.

They made their home on the Hisel Ranch which is located forty miles northeast of Oshkosh.  Evelyn helped on the ranch as well as her teaching.

She enjoyed writing and wrote and published Mari Sadoz a wildflower along with a workbook for schools.  She also published books for other people.  She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, making mission quilts, traveling to Julesburg to help with world relief projects, and visiting anyone who stopped by her house.  Another thing she truly enjoyed was being a mentor for Garden County High School for several years.

Evelyn is survived by her sister, Ruth Hamilton of Lewellen; sons, Neville (Suzan) Hisel and Martin (Kelly) Hisel both of Ashby; and five grandchildren, Brad (Kathryn) Hisel of North Platte, Dina (Tanner) Connell of Whitney, Steve (Sara) Hisel of Scottsbluff, Tyrel (Cristina) Hisel and Alicia (Tanner) Manley of Scottsbluff.  She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents (Frank and Elsie Berglund), her husband (Elton E. Hisel) and her brother-in-law, William “Bill” Hamilton.
