STEAMpunks at LSPL

STEAMpunks is returning to The Lied Scottsbluff Public Library with a drop-in program from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm on Tuesday, October 4. This year, the program will focus on one larger project or module each month, over two to three weeks. In October, we will explore filming and editing short videos, using green screen and other techniques to make spooky videos. On Tuesday, October 4, we will plan and write the videos, plan costuming, and pick backgrounds. The next Tuesday, October 11, we will film the videos, then on Tuesday, October 18, we will edit the videos. Videos will be shared with the public via the library’s Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

STEAMpunks is geared toward middle grades, although students in high school are also welcome to attend. The program will cover STEM programming (science, technology, engineering and math) as well as art and performance in a positive, uplifting environment. STEAMpunks will meet in the Maker Hub on the first three Tuesdays of the month between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. from September-April. The program is designed to be fluid – students do not need to show up at 3:30 and stay until 5:30, but can come later and leave earlier, as they need to. If they can’t come to every session of a module, they can complete the steps during the other weeks.

In November, STEAMpunks will design and create a gift using the Maker Hub tools and machines, and in December we will practice and present a “Living Book” presentation.

Pre-registration is not necessary and there is no cost to attend. Students can come any time during the program and do not have to stay the entire time.
