WNCC men’s soccer falls to LCCC 3-1

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College men’s soccer team scored two early goals and then held on to defeat Western Nebraska Community College 3-1 in conference action Tuesday in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The Golden Eagles controlled the ball on the offensive side for much of the contest. LCCC managed 43 shots, 24 in the first half and 19 in the second half. WNCC had three shots, all in the second half.

The Golden Eagles also had a corner kick advantage, registering 22 corner kicks to just one for WNCC.

LCCC scored the first goal in the first six minutes of the game as Abe Lopez had an unassisted goal.

The Golden Eagles made it 2-0 in the 25th minute as Eric Thompson scored off an assist from Noah Espino-Kennedy. That was where the two teams went into halftime at.

The second half was a different story as WNCC came ready to play. Saugat Rai started things as he scored an unassisted goal in the 54th minute to make the score 2-1.

WNCC kept playing tough defense in thwarting LCCC attempts as they tried to get the tying goal. In the 77th minute, LCCC recorded an insurance goal as Omar Castruita had an unassisted goal to put LCCC up 3-1.

Ismanal Munoz had 13 saves in net for the Cougars, while LCCC’s Brian Fierro had one save.

WNCC goes to 0-4 on the season while LCCC moves to 2-1-1.

The Cougars will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Sterling, Colorado to face Northeastern Junior College in a women’s and men’s doubleheader.
