The high school basketball season opened with a flurry of games on Thursday night with a total of eight contests being played in Scottsbluff, Gering, and Mitchell. Friday will see the scene shift to just two gyms with the winners bracket games at WNCC and the consolation bracket games being held at Scottsbluff High School.

Over at Mitchell High it was Chadron rallying in the second half to beat the Gering boys by the final of 45-40 behind a team high 13 points from Justus Alcorn. Gering was by Max Greeley who finished with 12 points on the night. Gering ran into issues in the middle two quarters scoring a total of just 12 points in those 16 minutes of action.
