Transfer of Wealth Study Reveals Massive Opportunity in Nebraska
November 16th, 2021 | Scott Miller

Over the next 10 years in Nebraska, $100 billion will transfer from one generation to the next, and over the next 50 years, that number swells to more than $950 billion.

Those were just a few of the details released Monday by the Nebraska Community Foundation from their recently conducted 2021 Nebraska Transfer of Wealth Study, the third such study by the organization.

During a virtual news conference, NCF Chief Operating Officer KC Belitz said it will be a vital tool in inspiring Greater Nebraskans to think about their communities in bigger terms, as we all need a reason for hope in the future. “And I think when we talk about the concept of active hope, this is the ultimate example of that, right?”, said Belitz, “And so we have to give Nebraskans enough reason to hope about the future in 50 years in their place that they say ‘Yeah, I think this is a reasonable investment’ because I believe there is in fact hope for a bright future here.”

Consultant Travis Green, who worked on the study, said Nebraska is unique in the way household assets are held.

“Unsurprisingly, Nebraska has a large amount of agricultural wealth that means we needed to do things a little differently when we conducted your study,” said Green. “So, for example, some of your counties have over half their wealth in agricultural assets and that was a special consideration that we had to design into your study.”

As part of the campaign, a new website ‘FiveToThriveNE.org‘ has been launched, showing how leaving just five percent of generational wealth to your local charitable causes can make an impact in every Nebraska county, more than $5 billion in the next decade across the state, and $47.5 billion over the next half-century.

The Nebraska Rural Radio Association explores transfer of wealth on the next Rural Radio Forum, airing on radio stations across Nebraska this afternoon at 2 p.m. MST.
