Authorities are seeking a suspect considered armed and dangerous following a homicide inside a house on the western edge of Scottsbluff Tuesday evening.

Scottsbluff Police Chief Kevin Spencer says shortly after 5 p.m., officers were called to 1713 Avenue Z for what was reported as an argument that was possibly followed by gunfire.

Spencer says on arrival, they found a 60-year-old female victim suffering from gunshot wounds, and medical personnel arriving about the same time attempted life-saving treatment, but were unsuccessful.

A large, intensive manhunt including drones was launched in the area, looking for a male suspect identified as 38-year-old Davin Darayle Saunders.

Spencer said Saunders is a black male, 5′ 11″, 205 pounds, is considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who may know of his whereabouts is asked to immediately contact their local law enforcement agency.

Online court records obtained by KNEB News show Davin Saunders lived in Scottsbluff until 2015, but was then sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison for stealing a shotgun.

Spencer said the name of the victim is being held pending notification of relatives, some of whom are as far away as the east coast. He said the motive was still unclear, but there was a family relationship between the victim and suspect.

Investigators remained at the scene of the crime five hours after the initial call, and patrol officers continue to search for the suspect.

Assisting with the search and traffic control were officers from the Gering Police Department, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol. Valley Ambulance and the Scotts Bluff Fire Department also responded.
