NSP Releases More Details on Wednesday Fatal Rollover

Authorities have released more details following a a one-vehicle rollover accident Wednesday afternoon between Scottsbluff and Mitchell that left one person dead and another injured.

The accident involving a pickup was reported on Highway 26 just east of Sunflower Oil Road at about 12:15 p.m., with Scotts Bluff County Sheriffs’ Deputies, Nebraska State Troopers, Mitchell Fire and Valley Ambulance responding.

NSP Spokesman Cody Thomas tells KNEB News that a red Chevy Silverado was westbound when it entered the median, crossed into the eastbound lanes, corrected back into the median and rolled. The two occupants of the vehicle were ejected.

The male passenger, 74-year-old Salvador Zambrano of Mitchell was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver, 66-year-old Dora Zambrano of Mitchell, was ejected as well,  suffering serious injury has been transported to the Intensive Care Unit at Regional West Medical Center.

Preliminary investigation has determined that neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.
