A major announcement today from Gering Mayor Tony Kaufman, who says ‘Dome Rock Diamonds’ has been selected as the name for the recently completed Quad Field Sport Complex.

During Thursday’s Salute to Tourism luncheon, Kaufman announced the name and stated that the complex will play host to 28 teams from the tri-state area during a two day tournament that kicks off on May 21st.

Keys were handed over to city officials last month for the $2 million ADA-compliant facility, which features a new concession stand with a misting system for patrons, a second story crow’s nest and four ball fields.

City Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services Director Amy Seiler tells KNEB News it’s really an incredible project, and getting to this point has been quite the journey for the city. “It was a vision many, many years ago, and it’s finally come to fruition. Just looking around at the quality of fields, this is going to be a great place to host tournaments, have our leagues and a have great facility,” said Seiler. “It’s going to be great for our youth, our community and our region.”

The public was allowed to choose from a final list of three names for the complex: Dome Rock Diamonds, Grand Slam Sports Complex and Prairie Sky Sports Complex. After all the votes were tabulated after voting closed on May 3rd, Dome Rock Diamonds was the most popular choice among those who cast a ballot.
