Friday Games on RRN

  • Gering at Seward…coverage on KMOR 93.3 FM & KMORfm.com with pregame at 5:00 pm MT.
  • Northwest at Scottsbluff…coverage on KNEB.tv platforms Allo, Mobius, STRIV plus radio on 107.3 The Trail & KHYYfm.com with pregame at 6:30 pm MT.

Scottsbluff and Northwest is always marquee game on the schedule every season. This year the teams comes in with opposite record with the Bearcats at 3-1 while the Vikings come west at just 1-3.

It’s been an interesting season so far for Kevin Stein and Northwest with losses to top teams like Aurora, Skutt, and Seward and their lone win coming last week against Elkhorn North. They’ve also yet to play a true home game.

Scottsbluff has had a gauntlet of a schedule so far this year, logging trips to Lincoln and York and coming out with wins both times. They’ll be glad to be at home tonight for a game that should be a major contrast in styles.

Last week Northwest threw the ball over 50 times while running close to 89 total plays. Scottsbluff last week played a game that had limited possessions as they won a old school grinder over York 20-17.

Northwest averages 272 yards a game passing and 123 yards per night on the ground. Quarterback Austin Payne has a 5:5 TD to interception ratio and he also leads the team with 258 yards rushing.

Scottsbluff will be looking to establish their ground game dominance early and often after both Sebastien Boyle and Braden Stull were held under 100 yards last week.

Scottsbluff won last year’s matchup at Northwest by the final of 43-36.

Things are now in a tricky spot for the Gering Bulldogs. After a season opening win over Torrington the Bulldogs have lost three in a row to the likes of Chadron, Douglas, and Ogallala. They’re 1-3 while playing three of their first four games at home.

Tonight they have their first long road trip of the season as they head to take on Class B top ten team, Seward. The Blue Jays are 3-1 on the season with wins over Norris, Northwest, and Hastings. Their only loss coming to 2-2 Lincoln Pius.

Seward head coach Jamie Opfer fills us in on the type of team he has this season.

Gering enters play tonight at No. 20 in power points with games still to come against the Blue Jays tonight plus Northwest, Scottsbluff, Hastings, and Lexington.

After holding Torrington to 19 points, Gering has given up an average of 41 points per game over their last three games.

Gering coach Danny O’Boyle takes his team on a long trip today.

After Tanner Gartner had a few big games in the running game, last week Ogallala did a nice job defensively on him while quarterback Jackson Howard came up with one of his better performances in his time as the starting quarterback.

Gering will have to put it all together at the same time tonight to get a huge road win.

Quickly, the Mitchell Tigers head into week five as the No. 1 team in C-2 power points. The Tigers are 4-0 and heading to play at Hershey tonight. Coach Nick Kuxhausen has some great upperclassmen leading the way on and off the field with the likes of Cael Peters and Hayden Umble.

Mitchell has a player led team.
