Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out Thursday morning at the UNL Extension Center in Scottsbluff.
Around 11 a.m., a fire was reported near the stage area in the building’s auditorium. Scottsbluff Rural Fire Chief Carissa Schank tells KNEB News when crews arrived, there was still an active fire and heavy smoke.
“We’re clearing the smoke from the building and the fire will be investigated,” says Schank. “We did mutual aid with Scottsbluff Fire to assist in extinguishing the fire and ventilating the building.”
She says about six or seven UNL Extension employees were checked for smoke inhalation, but no injuries were reported.
