Stephen Montanez of Scottsbluff, Nebraska went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 19, 2021, peacefully with his family at his side. Cremation has taken place under the care of Dugan Kramer Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com
Stephen was known to many for his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, integrity and his enthusiastic servant attitude when it came to helping others. Stephen enjoyed helping others and there was nothing he could not fix! He received his education through Scottsbluff Public Schools and graduated in 1977. He attended WNCC and made the President’s List for Excellence in Automotive Mechanics. He worked many years as a carman with BNSF. He married the love of his life, Cynthia Benavides, from Bridgeport on December 28, 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Montanez, his mother, Virginia Montanez, siblings: Manuel Montanez, Jr.(Lynn), Delf Montanez (Alvina), Ralph Montanez (Francis Galindo), Guadalupe Barrera. Sandra Peterson (Marlin), Laurie Lopez (Vinson). In-laws: Mario Benavides (Elaine), Gracie Benavides, David Benavides and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manual, Sr. two infant sisters, father and mother in-law, Maximo & Maria Benavides, and sister in-law Herminia Flores.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 1:00 PM at Harvest Valley Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Curtis Holzworth officiating.
A memorial has been established with the family for medical expenses. Stephen’s infectious smile and loving heart will be greatly missed by family and friends.
