ATLANTA – Western Nebraska Community College women’s basketball players Ale’jah Douglas and Payton Fields each led their teams to wins Friday in the first day of the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Star/Hall of Fame games on Friday in Atlanta, Georgia.

Douglas was the highlight for her Dream team as the 5-foot-8 guard from Omaha led her team with 22 points as the Dream topped the Lynx 81-65.

Fields also started for her Storm team as the 6-0 wing player from El Paso, Texas, had four points for her team in a 79-70 win over the Sparks.

Now, Douglas and Fields will compete against each other for the all-star championship Saturday morning at 10 a.m. MST.

The all-star fame is made up of 40 of the top returning JUCO players that are returning for their sophomore year and the players will be divided into four teams.

Douglas’ Dream team led 21-13 after one quarter and led 38-35 at halftime. Douglas had 14 points in the first half. The third quarter is where the Dream started to pull away, outscoring the Lynx 24-17 to hold a 62-52 lead.

Douglas finished the game with 22 points to lead her team as she was 8-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. She also had three assists and two rebounds in the win.

Fields’ game was very intense as the Storm and Sparks were tied at 14 after one quarter. The Sparks then led 31-25 at halftime.

The second-half was where the Storm made a push, outscoring the Sparks 27-22 in the third to trail by one after three quarters 53-52. The fourth quarter was all Storm as they outscored the Sparks 27-17 for the 9-point win.

Fields played 21 minutes for the Storm going 1-of-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. She also had four rebounds.
