It’s been a very busy week and for the football guys a very hot week as West Nebraska All-Star week will come to a close on Saturday in Scottsbluff with the 37th annual volleyball showcase game followed by the 43rd edition for the all-star football game.
The Rural Radio Network will have plenty of different options for you to watch or listen. Both games will be broadcast on KNEB.tv (also, ALLO channel 15, and Mobius channel 1500) along with the radio broadcast on 106.9 The Trail with the streaming option available at KHYYfm.com. Volleyball pregame is at 1:45 pm MT with first serve at 2:00 and the football game will kickoff at 7 pm MT and pregame will start at 6:45.
880 KRVN out of Lexington will pick up the football broadcast as well.
The head coach for the East football team is Jayce Dueland, representing Elm Creek High School this week before he settles in as the new head coach at Cozad. Dueland says the mid to upper 90’s temperatures this week have been a challenge, “It’s been 95 all week and it’s something you’re not really use to managing other than maybe August in camp, but football is played in all seasons so just happy to be out here with the ability to play football.
Over on the West sideline tomorrow night will be Chadron head coach Mike Lecher. Coaches tend to keep it a bit simple with these all-star games and here’s what we can expect from the West offense, “We have real capable running backs, so might go against the grain and run the ball a lot. You’ll see some trick plays and some of that stuff going on but we’ve got really good speed running backs and we’re going to utilize those guys.”
The volleyball match has been moved for this year only from WNCC’s Cougar Palace to Scottsbluff High School.
In charge of the West team is Sidney High’s Julie Smith who says while the week is about having fun and making new relationships at the end of the day both teams are going to want to come out on top, “Yep and we’ve talked about that. We wanna make good memories this week but by gosh we I think we’re all on the same page and wanna get to 25 first on Saturday.”
For the East it’s Broken Bow head coach Skylar Morris leading the way. It’s her second time out as a coach for West Nebraska All-Star week and she says everyone involved with the week does a great job making sure the kids have a great experience, “The commmittee does such a great job to make this so fun for both the coaches but also the athletes. Coach Mahlberg (Gothenburg) and I both didn’t hesitate at all when they asked us to come out again because we had such a good time the first time.”
There are no presale tickets available this year. Tickets for both games are only available at the door/gate before hand.
