Twin Cities Development on Board to Continue Scottsbluff Economic Development Plan

This week, it was announced that a grassroots committee has formed to help with continuing the City of Scottsbluff’s Economic Development Plan and associated taxes.

The ‘Renew the Two’ political action committee is working on the ballot language for Propositions One and Two, which help raise funds for projects through the city’s LB840 fund.

Charles Lieske says he and several other community members are taking the lead on the project at this time.

However they’re not alone in their mission.

Twin Cities Development Board President Katy Reichert says they have been working behind the scenes to make sure voters are educated about the benefits of the two sales taxes that have been supporting Scottsbluff’s economic development for nearly 30 years.

“We support it and we very much want to see the LB840 committee continue,” said Reichert.

She says TCD has started working with their marketing team for an article that will begin circulating closer to the November general election. Reichert also says that they’ll work on getting mailers sent out to post office boxes to help communicate the statistics and have voters be fully educated on the issue.

Reichert, who is also a partner at a Scottsbluff law firm, said that she would be willing to help the Renew the Two PAC with the ballot language for Propositions One and Two.

She says that this process will work so well with multiple entities collaborating, and hopes that together they can streamline the benefits and impacts that the one-fourth of 1 percent sales tax and one-sixth of the city’s sales and use tax have on our local economic development.
