April 20th, 2021 | KNEB Staff

The Torrington Police Department is currently investigating a homicide, arson, and vehicle theft in the community.

At approximately 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, the Communications Center was made aware of a fire in the 300 block of East Valley Road in Torrington. While the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department was working to control the fire, additional information was received by officers that was suspicious in nature.

The fire is being investigated as a suspected arson at this time.

Officers conducted a follow-up investigation based on the information that was received, and a deceased person was ultimately located in the 1300 block of East 17th Avenue in Torrington. The death is suspicious in nature and is being investigated as a suspected homicide at this time.

While officers were working at that scene, a stolen vehicle was reported in the 1700 block of East C Street. The vehicle was subsequently located with assistance from the Goshen County Sheriff’s Department.

All of these incidents are believed to be related and the crimes are associated with a single suspect.

The suspect has been taken into custody and is currently housed at the Goshen County Detention Center. The suspect is held on probable cause developed during the investigation and is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. As the suspect is in custody, there is no ongoing threat to our community that we are aware of at this time.

This investigation is complex and involves multiple crime scenes in our community.

The Torrington Police Department will be working with Wyoming DCI and the Goshen County Coroner to gather all of the available evidence. The investigation is active and ongoing, no additional information is available at this time.
