A warm bowl of soup, breads, desserts and a beverage will be waiting for you this Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. as the Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department holds their annual soup supper at the fire station at 1717 E. 15th St..

Fire Chief Paul Reisig says proceeds go toward fire prevention education, and the purchase of supplies and equipment which got a lot of heavy use this year. “Every time we go out and work them very hard like we’ve had to this year with several big fires, there’s always some repairs, and replacement of lost tools, that really need to be done. That all comes into that equation, too,” said Reisig. “And we’re always glad to meet with the public as well, give us a chance to say ‘hi’ to them when it’s not an adverse situation.”

The department has a new engine on order, and Reisig says there are always small items that need to be added once a new rig is delivered.

The menu includes chili, vegetable beef and broccoli-cheese soup, with tickets at the door just $7.00 a person, and children 6 and under are free. There will be a raffle of items as well.

Firefighters will be available for burn permits, and to answer questions about becoming a volunteer firefighter and fire prevention.
