Shaver Transportation Company was founded in 1880 and the Shaver family continues to own and manage the business today. The company was one of the tour stops on the recent Wheat Export and Marketing Workshop, sponsored by the Nebraska Wheat Board.

Shaver is the oldest continuously operating family-owned tugboat company on the west coast.

Inland grain and bulk commodity transportation are a core business for Shaver Transportation. Shaver’s barges have a combined capacity of almost 69,800 short tons and tugs are capable of moving any freight by barge on the Columbia Snake River System.

Shaver barges are specially designed to transport grain and bulk commodities such as wheat, barley, soybeans, corn, canola and rapeseed.

Learn more about the role of tug boats and barges when it comes to exporting wheat in this video interview with Rob Rich from Shaver Transportation!

Each year the Nebraska Wheat Board sponsors an educational marketing and export tour in Portland Oregon.

Wheat growers and other stakeholders have the chance to see firsthand how their product is marketed and exported after it leaves the farm.
