Ranchers across Nebraska are in the process of getting cattle to grass for the summer months.
Horn Flies can have a large economic impact in cattle systems, including cow body condition, reduced milk production, altered grazing patterns, calf weaning weights and summer mastitis.
David Boxler, an entomology extension educator for the University of Nebraska Lincoln, said he encourages producers to be proactive in fly control in their herds.
Boxler said that the fly season is growing longer with changing weather patterns, and producers should examine what control options work best in their system in order to provide cows with needed relief.
