The Western Nebraska Pioneers got a pair of great pitching performances on Thursday night as they swept a doubleheader on the road over the Pierre Trappers.

In game one it was Bryan Webb (Grand Canyon University) tossing six shutout innings with seven strikeouts as the Pioneers cruised to a 9-0 win. Paul Panduro (WNCC/Pittsburg State) closed things out in the seventh with a scoreless frame.

Eric Smelko (St. Mary’s) went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored and one driven in while Jake English (KU) finsihed with two hits and three RBI.

In the nightcap it was the Pios winning 6-0 behind Luke Short (West Valley JC), who tossed a seven inning complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts. He allowed just three hits.

JT Waldon (Gonzaga) continued to fill up the box score at the plate with a 3-3 game.

With the two wins the Pioneers go back over .500 in the second half standings at 13-11. Tonight the team returns home to start a three game weekend series against the Canyon County Spuds at Oregon Trail Park Stadium starting at 6:35.
