The Western Nebraska Pioneers were back at Oregon Trail Park Stadium last night starting a late season push with a 10-0 seven inning win over the Dodge City A’s.

This was a tight one most the way with the Pioneers leading 1-0 after five and a half innings but in the bottom of the sixth the Pios put up a nine spot to run away and hide.

The big blow of the inning was a Kieran Gaffney grand slam, his team leading fourth home run of the season. The Pioneers would go on to score five more runs in the inning. Gaffney finished with three hits, the four RBI, and a run scored.

Other big nights offensively came from Jake Maroney (3-4, 2 RBI, 2 R), Jackson Yeager (2-3, R), and Luke Noack (2-4, R).

Two pitchers combined on the shutout with starter Ronan Hella working six innings with four strikeouts and Cameron Meyer closing the game out in the seventh with a scoreless inning.

According to the Rocky Mountain League page in the updated league standings the Pioneers are up to fourth place, sitting at 10-11, 4.5 games back of first place Liberal, KS.

Tonight another matchup with Dodge City and we’ll have the game with Jeffrey Nelson on KNEB AM 960/100.3 FM & KNEBam.com starting at 6:20 pm with the pregame show ahead of first pitch at 6:35.
