Pioneers defeat Moo, advance to Independence League Championship Series

The Western Nebraska Pioneers took control early on Tuesday night in a 11-5 win over Fremont to win that Divisional Round Series two games to one.

With the win the Pioneers will now meet the Spearfish Sasquatch in the Independence League Championship Series starting on Thursday night.

After dropping game one on the road at Fremont the Pioneers were able to force the decisive game three with a home win over the Moo on Monday.

In the deciding game the Pios went in front early and never looked back as they scored solo runs in the first and second innings before posting a two spot in the third and then five more runs in the fourth inning.

Ryan Callahan homered in the third inning and he finished with three RBI while Stevie Hom went 4-5 at the plate with a pair of runs scored as Western Nebraska finished with a 10 hit attack in the win.

The win on the mound went to Jerson Morales, he tossed three plus innings out of the bullpen allowing two earned runs with a pair of strikeouts.

The Championship Series against Spearfish will be a best-of-three set that will start on Thursday night in Spearfish. Game two will be at Oregon Trail Park Stadium on Saturday night with the if-necessary game three set for Sunday in Gering.
