Gering Public Schools Board of Education members heard from a number of concerned patrons during a public comment period during Monday night’s regular monthly board meeting.
Patrons voiced their opinions on a recently implemented and now completed mask mandate, and what they feel is a lack of communication from administration and had concerns about decisions made by the board.
Many of the parents and patrons voiced opinions on mask mandates, citing statistics regarding the physical and emotional effects on children, feeling the decisions should be left to parents.
A total of nine patrons addressed the board, with many citing statistics regarding COVID-19 and its effects with regard to children.
Board President B.J. Peters thanked those who attended, and said the district has two things they need to do, educate the kids and do it in the safest way possible.
