The Monument Valley Pathway is one step closer to being completed, as the pedestrian bridge began arriving in sections on Tuesday, April 20.

“We’ll put the bridge together where it sits on the north side (of Highway 26) and then we’ll plan for hopefully setting it next week,” said Mark Bohl, City of Scottsbluff director of public works.

The south side of the pathway with the smaller bridge is complete up to the top, which is why the bridge will be put together on the north side.

“On the north side we still have to put our light pole bases and the walk,” he said. “Our concentration now will be getting the bridge put together when all four sections are here and then getting that set up so we have it out of our way, and we can continue the walk.”

The city has obtained a state permit to close Hwy 26 from 5th Avenue to Avenue B, and allow the cranes to move the bridge safely into place. The highway will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the least amount of traffic disruption.

When the bridge is placed the path will continue east along the north side of Highway 26 to East 27th Street before ending northwest of WNCC

“When we pinpoint the night we are actually going to set the bridge I’ll send out a press release so people can be prepared for it,” Bohl said.
