It’s been a hot summer so far, but the heat has been especially hard for staff and patrons at the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library.

For years, the cooling tower at the library has been acting up, and crews have been working to get things fixed. City Manager Kevin Spencer says that this week, he expects the system to be fully back up and running.

“The staff over there have been champions, they haven’t had air conditioning all summer,” Spencer told KNEB News. “So we’re hoping to get that wrapped up for them soon. That has that project has been challenging, to say the least.”

The $311,000 contract went to Johnson Controls of Cheyenne last August, but had a timeline of up to 24 months for full installation.
