Late last week Scottsbluff High School announced their Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

On the girls side the winner was Anna Kelley, who’s a two-time individual Class B State Golf Champion, plus a key standout in basketball and soccer.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better four years. All my sports I’ve loved them and enjoyed them. All my coaches and all my different friends throughout. I mean, It’s just been so much fun and I’m definitely going to miss it.”

Kelley says it’s time to hang it up for competitive sports as she’ll head Arizona State University in the fall.

“I’m still going to golf all the time, I’m going to try and get a job at a golf course. But I’ll definitely still play intramural basketball or maybe soccer. I can’t give it up all the way because it’s been my life for my whole life.”

The boys winner was Josiah Mobley, who was also a three sport standout for the Bearcats. He was one of the top defensive players in all of Class B as a linebacker during the fall, then reached the state tournament in Omaha during wrestling season and also competed in track and field.

“It means a lot. I got to share the field, the mat, and the track with a bunch of good athletes and honestly, really, really good friends and lifetime friends. And getting this award means a lot because we’ve got so many good athletes. To be chosen the best out of all of them means a lot to me and it’s a really big deal.”

Similar to Kelley, Mobley will not play college sports.

“You know I’m super content with the sports that I had here. I can’t ask for better coaches. It has to end sometime and might as well be now and I can focus on my studies and just open a new chapter in my life.”

Mobley will get to put the football helmet and pads on one final time, he’ll represent Scottsbluff High School at the Shrine Bowl on Saturday.
