It was a busy night of legion baseball on the RRN-Scottsbluff on Tuesday night as both senior teams in town picked up wins.

Gering Platte Valley Companies won their season opener at Sidney 11-0 while the WESTCO Zephyrs knocked off Torrington 14-7.

Let’s start on the road with Gering. After the B&C Steel Jr’s beat Sidney in the early game 15-0 it was the debut as head coach for Travis Gable and his PVC Sr’s were up to the task with the five inning 11-0 win.

Dalton Wiese starred on the mound with a complete game effort and seven strikeouts. Wiese allowed just two base hits and he walked two. At the plate Wiese had a triple and drove in two while newcomer Carter Reisig had a pair of hits and three RBI.

Overall on the night Gering had 6 hits and they played error free on defense while Sidney committed three errors in the game.

It’s another Jr/Sr doubleheader tonight for Gering as they play their home openers against Alliance. We’ll carry the PVC vs. Alliance game on KMOR 93.3 FM and KMORfm.com starting with pregame at approximately 7 pm.

Z’s double up Torrington

The WESTCO Zephyrs snapped a five game losing streak on Tuesday with a home win at Cleveland Field, 14-7 against Torrington.

It was a scheduled doubleheader but after the opening game was delayed in the second inning due to the shooting and manhunt situation, the coaches decided to turn the night into a single nine inning contest.

The Z’s trailed 2-0 coming out of the delay and they fell behind 3-0 in the third. But in the bottom of the third inning Andon Pittman came up with a big swing of the bat and he knocked an opposite field, two out, three-run double to tie the game.

WESTCO would score in five straight innings to close out the night and close out the Tigers in eight innings.

Hunter Garcia started and took a no-decision while reliever Cameron Meyer picked up the win, he worked four innings and allowed two earned runs. Hunter McCollum struck out the side to close the game out in the eighth inning.

At the plate Pittman finished with three hits and five RBI. The top four hitters in the lineup (Porter Robbins, Roy Tarango, McCollum, and Pittman) combined to go 9-17 with nine runs scored and six RBI.

With the win the Z’s improve to 4-5 and they’ll play at Torrington tomorrow night.
