A Gering man was the victim of a swimming mishap at a Wyoming lake last week.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to KNEB News that shortly before noon last Friday, they received a report of a 65-year-old male that had jumped off a boat on the east end of Grayrocks Reservoir but never resurfaced.

Search, rescue and dive teams from agencies across Wyoming, as well as a team with drag sonar and the Scotts Bluff County Dive team were part of the search effort. Gering Fire Chief Nathan Flowers says 7 dive team members with four support vehicles responded Friday, and upon arrival, they supported boat and radar operations due to the complexity of the incident and limited daylight.

Authorities said due to the area where the male went under, it’s possible he slipped under a cavern or into an underwater cave and was unable to be located, and the search was suspended late Monday this week.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is withholding the man’s name out of respect for the family.
