Gering man dies in vehicle vs. bicyclist collision

Authorities say a Gering man died from injuries suffered Wednesday morning in a vehicle vs. bicycle collision between Scottsbluff and Minatare.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, troopers were called around 6:40 a.m. to the scene near mile marker 27 on Highway 26, where investigators determined both were eastbound at the time of the crash.

The bicycle rider, identified as 76-year-old Merlin Anderson of Gering, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and next of kin was notified.

The driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Zachariah Bolling of Scottsbluff, remained on scene, and was cited for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.

NSP was assisted by Scottsbluff County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsbluff Police Department, Gering Police Department, Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department and Valley Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation.
