Garden County High School senior Montgomery Brown has been showing his dedication to the sport of baseball for years now.

On Thursday afternoon that dedication paid off as Brown signed to continue his career on the diamond at York University in York, Nebraska.

“We looked at a few colleges, reached out to them and decided to go down there and tryout. They gave me an offer and I have a couple buddies down there who play. Just felt good there. Felt like it fit me well. Liked the coaching staff, they’re super nice, seems like they know what they’re talking about. It’s where I felt that god was leading me to play.”

Brown lives south of Oshkosh and plays his legion ball in the summertime for the Bridgeport Bombers. He says they make the hour drive about three times a week for practices or games. That alone shows the type of commitment that a small college program would be looking for in a future player.

Brown says his time with the Bridgeport program has been huge in his development and enjoyment of the game of baseball.

“I’ve loved it. I started playing their when I was 13. Grew some great relationships with coaches and teammates. Got a lot of experience and learned a lot from different guys on the team and coaches. Excited to play their for one more year before I go off to college.”

Brown says that York is looking at him as a catcher long term but that early in his career there he might be used in a utility role where he could see time as a pitcher along with playing some infield.

At Garden County High School Brown plays golf in the spring, he played basketball for three of his four years and he’s also involved in high school rodeo as a team roper and calf roper.

Brown will focus his studies at York in physical education with the goal of teaching and coaching high school baseball in the long term.
