Well, I ran into some strong rains on the drive home from Grand Island last night and sounds like there was plenty of rain/lightning during the night of high school football here in the region.
On the RRN-Scottsbluff last night a pair of tough losses for Scottsbluff and Gering.
The Bearcats dropped their second straight game, falling at Northwest 35-34.
Northwest scored the first 21 points of the second half to go up 35-21 but then the Bearcats rallied to back with a Nate Kelley touchdown pass to Carter Reisig followed up by a Sebastien Boyle 2 yard touchdown run to make it 35-34, but Scottsbluff missed the extra point off the right upright and Northwest then recovered the onside kick and went into victory formation to seal the victory.
The game featured 970 yards of total offense with Scottsbluff rushing for 440 yards in the game. Kelley had 195 with a pair of touchdowns, Boyle churned out 124 with a pair of scores, Reisig finished with 86 on the ground and Frankie Trevino tacked on another 35.
Northwest’s run game helped keep them balanced and on the field for a few sustained drives to go along with their quick strike drives also. The Vikings finished with 33 rushes for 173 yards and they got huge games from quarterback Camden Jensen, running back Lincoln Flagle, and their four man receiving corps was outstanding.
Scottsbluff has lost back to back games ahead of hosting Waverly next Friday. Waverly won at York last night 28-0.
Gering drops delay filled game at home to Seward
Another tough one for the Gering football program last night as they lose at home to the Seward Blue Jays 22-15. This game featured multiple lightning delays and then just one touchdown combined from the two teams in the second half.
Gering led at halftime 15-14 but was unable to come up with any points in the second half as they dropped their fourth straight game.
Everyone in the booth on the postgame show agreed it was a tale of two halves.
I think Adam Ostdiek and Jeff Kelley are the ones to turn to here for basic recap of this one last night, they were in the broadcast booth with the details.
Tanner Gartner finished with 113 yards rushing on 15 attempts for Gering to lead the way offensively while Grady Robbins tallied 33 yards on the ground. Gering only got 49 yards passing on the night.
Gering will travel to play 0-5 Lexington next Friday night.
