With the backdrop of the Wildcat Hills Nature Center, top officials from the cities of Scottsbluff, Gering, and Terrytown, and Scotts Bluff County, signed a proclamation marking this week as National Travel & Tourism Week 2021.
The “Power of Travel” is this year’s theme, and tourism officials are collaborating with the 100th Anniversary of Nebraska’s State Parks, which is celebrating the great outdoors with their theme “Your Memories, Your Adventures, Your Parks”.
Scotts Bluff County Tourism Director Brenda Leisy says this year’s focus is across the board, including nationally. “We look at our role in bringing back vibrant communities, restoring our local economies, rebuilding a tourism workforce and reconnecting visitors and destinations,” said Leisy. “For Nebraska, emphasis is directed toward the value of tourism and promoting Nebraska’s destinations.”
Additional events scheduled for the week include Wear Red Day, which is Wednesday May 5th, and area residents are encouraged to visit their favorite area tourism spots, take a selfie and post to social medical using the hashtag #virtualWN.
A ‘Social Media 101’ virtual training for front-line workers in the tourism industry and related businesses is scheduled for this coming Friday, and attendees do need to pre-register by May 5th at Noon by sending an email to either karla@visitgering.com or bleisy@scottsbluffcounty.org
State tourism director John Ricks will also be in the area later this week meeting with business and tourism industry members to take a look at the future of tourism in the state in light of the virus pandemic
