Both Chadron State College basketball teams won their first games of the season in a big way while playing at home on Sunday.

The Chadron State women defeated Mount Marty of Yankton, S.D., 68-48 behind 22 points by Jori Peters of Mitchell and 15 points and 12 rebounds by Bailey Brooks of Douglas, Wyo.  The Lady Eagles enjoyed the victory. They were 0-3 so far this year and went 0-15 last year when COVID troubles hampered them

The Chadron State men followed with a 118-64 triumph over Haskell Indian Nations from Lawrence, Kan., Sunday evening.  The Eagles shot 62 percent from the field and set school records by sinking 18 three-pointers and handing out 35 assists.

Twice before the CSC men had buried 17 trays and they’d been credited with 29 assists on three previous occasions.

The Eagles also had seven players score in double figures for what is believed the first time CSC basketball history.   Guard Marcus Jefferson led the way with 21 points while sinking eight of nine field goal shots, including five of six 3-pointers. Freshman Beau Bragg was next with 19 points on eight of nine marksmanship from the field.

The CSC men were 0-4 this fall before romping past Haskell.  They’ll play three Puerto Rican team this weekend in that island nation.
