June 22nd, 2021 | Ryan Murphy

A 67-year-old Alliance man has been sentenced to a total of 30 to 40 years in prison for the June, 2020 stabbing death of Steven Oliver.

George Smith was found guilty by a jury on charges of Manslaughter and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony last month.

One year ago, Alliance officers were dispatched to a residence on Tuluca Avenue and found a 42-year-old male had been stabbed in the chest. The victim had been identified as Oliver, who was transported to Box Butte General Hospital and later died.

Then Police Chief John Kiss says through their investigation, it appeared Oliver and Smith had gotten into an argument which escalated quickly.
