As Nebraska lawmakers get ready to return to Lincoln to start the first session of the 108th Legislature, a poll commissioned by the ACLU of Nebraska says most Nebraska voters do not want new restrictions on abortion.

The mid-November poll of 604 registered Nebraska voters conducted by Hart Research had 59% of respondents opposed to “state senators enacting more restrictive abortion bans in Nebraska”, compared to just 36% of respondents who supported it.

Results showed an even stronger gap in intensity, with 48% of voters who took the survey saying they strongly opposed more bans compared to just 24% of voters who said they were strongly in favor.

ACLU of Nebraska representatives say the new polling showed Nebraskans opposed to new bans outnumber supporters in both rural and urban communities. as well as in each congressional district.

Scout Richters, senior legal and policy counsel for the group, said state senators should take notice of the results and keep abortion legal.

Hart Research indicated the polling is representative of registered voters statewide in terms of demographics, geography and political affiliation.
