No records fell during the 2022 Platte Valley Companies Monument Marathon, but there were plenty of smiles as runners made their way across the finish line Saturday.

The day started with what could have been called ideal conditions, cool with very little wind as runners got under way with the starting air horns, first the full and half marathoners, followed a half hour later by the half marathon relay and 5K participants.

Kyle Clouston of Lincoln took top honors in the Men’s full marathon in a time of 2:51:27, while Heidi McCarty of Cheyenne was the Women’s full champion with a time of 3:26:51.

In the half marathon, Alejandro Garcia of Chappell was the Men’s champion with a time of 1:10:23, while Emily Pifer of Laramie, with a time of 1:29:57, was the Women’s division champion.

In the half marathon relay, Van Cleave Squad, a Co-ed team, was the first across the line at 1:33:42, followed by the top Men’s team of False Confidence with a time of 1:36:31, and then the top Women’s team, Asphalt Kickers, at 1:37:13.

Jarred Berger of Gering was the fastest Men’s 5K finisher with a time of 19:18, while Libby Baum of Gering topped the Women’s field in a time of 23:51.

The 11th annual marathon generates funds for student scholarships offered by the WNCC Foundation, and in the first decade, approximately $450,000 has been raised.

About 560 participants from across the country registered to run this year’s event. Full race results can be found at monumentmarathon.com/results.
