Walter Schaneman, 93, of Scottsbluff passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Monument Rehabilitation and Care Center in Scottsbluff. A private family graveside inurnment will be at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.

Walter was born April 4, 1929 in Scotts Bluff County. He was the ninth of thirteen children born to Conrad and Katherine (Kaiser) Schaneman, first generation immigrants. He attended school at Victory Hill and other schools in Scottsbluff. He was a lifelong member of Salem Congregational Church. He honorably served in the United States Army between 1951 and 1953, having been stationed in Japan.

On November 19, 1961 he married Mary Moose and to this union two daughters, Tamara and Trudy, were born. Walter was a lifelong farmer and livestock feeder, owning farms in Bayard, Morrill, and Scottsbluff areas. He and his brother, John, along with their wives, at one time owned and operated the Stable Club restaurant in Terrytown and later he owned the Western Cafe. He resided in the Minatare and Morrill areas, finally retiring to Scottsbluff.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Tamara Benson; sister, Norma Conrad; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary F. Schaneman; daughter, Trudy; as well as sisters, Katherine Schledewitz, Betty Vail, Ann Foos, Elizabeth Stitt; brothers, Lawrence, Henry, Conrad Jr., George, John, LeRoy, Floyd; and son-in-law Larry Benson.
