Richard was born December 17, 1936, in Bridgeport, Nebraska, to Clifford and Irene (Hall) Hoxworth. Richard graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1955.

He was united in marriage to Judy Mae Heinz on April 19, 1959. The couple made their home in Bridgeport and together they welcomed three sons, Cary, Paul, and David.

Richard was a hard worker and an amazing individual with multiple talents. He farmed in the Bridgeport area for many years. He held various positions during his career with the United States Post Office in the communities of Bridgeport, Alliance, Gering, Scottsbluff, North Platte, Keystone, and Lyman from 1970 to 1999.

In his early years, Richard’s “Dick’s” hobby was to engage in a round of pool. His game of choice was Snooker. Challenging friends and family to a game of cards was always ‘in the cards’. Richard was a dynamic card player. He had a knack for being the one to lay down his cards, surprising everyone by winning the game, and was frequently noted for being the “silent assassin”. Later in Richard’s life, he developed a love for the game of golf. Anyone that knew Richard well, knew he battled through polio as a teenager. Richard managed to find a way to enjoy golf even though it was physically difficult. Finally, one of the most memorable traits of Richard was his quirky sense of humor as well as his contagious laugh. Everyone in the movie theater would know when Richard was there.

Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judy Hoxworth of Scottsbluff; sons, Cary (Penny) Hoxworth of Bridgeport, Paul (Lynelle) Hoxworth of Garden City, KS, and David (Robin) Hoxworth of Scottsbluff; and sister-in-law, Barb Hoxworth. He also leaves behind “The Best Dog” he’s ever had, Tucker, and his other special dog, Bella. Richard will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, DJ, Matthew, Josh, Kyle, Aubrey, Kevin, Jedediah, Alyssa, Rachel, Jordyn, and Rebecca; and great-grandchildren, Landon, Henry, Carter, Emma, Shayla, Harper, Braxton, Alainie, Kamden, Beau, and Henry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Irene Hoxworth; brothers, Lemoyne and Elwyn; sister, Marge Sorensen; and cousin, George Finnel, who was like a brother to him.
