Myrtle “Myrt” Hulbert-Hughbanks, of Gering, Nebraska, went home to our Lord Jesus on July 23, 2024, at The Residency in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Myrt’s Celebration of Life service will be at 10 A.M. on Saturday, August 10th, at Central Church of Christ in Gering. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park and Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the Central Church of Christ to help with the music ministry in updating the sound system. Myrtle llene Sandberg was born the seventh child of the late Morris August Sandberg and Myrtle Belle (Schindler) Sandberg on August 24, 1930, in Bushnell, Nebraska. They lived on the family Farm near Flowerfield, Nebraska, until she was three, when they moved to the town of Harrisburg, Nebraska. She attended school there through the 10th grade, and then the family moved to Gering, where she graduated high school in 1948. Myrt attended Scottsbluff Junior College for one year, then became employed by Gering National Bank. While working there, she worked under the founder A.N. Mathers, then Dwight Griswold, who was followed by Dale Sorenson. She was Baptized at the Central Church of Christ when it was located at 11th and P. Streets, by Kenneth Beckman on April 20th, 1947.

On September 14, 1952, Myrt married Keith LaVerne Hulbert at the same church. They were married 41 ½ years and were blessed with four children: Julia Ann (Hulbert) Hardin, Marla Jane Hulbert, who was Stillborn, Bryan Keith Hulbert, and Kent LaVerne Hulbert.

Myrt participated in her children’s activities as a Blue Bird Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, and Sunday School teacher. In 1977, she received her Realtor Brokers license and enjoyed that career for 22 years. She enjoyed this career and made many wonderful friends.

On September 6, 1997, she married John S. (Tucker) Hughbanks, and they were married until his death on May 27, 2009.

She is survived by son Bryan (Susan) Hulbert, Gering, NE, and son Kent (Staci) Hulbert, Marinette, WI. Son-in-law Wes (Candy) Hardin, Mitchell, NE. Eight grandchildren: Eric Hardin, Gering, NE; Kory Hardin, Kearney, NE; Melissa (Jared) Reich, Kimball, NE; Brad (Andrea) Hardin, Grand Island, NE; Hilary (Randy) Strom, Gering, NE; Jordan (Summer) Hulbert, Sidney, NE; Grant Hulbert, Arlington, VA and Garrett (Paige) Hulbert, Nixa, MO; and Sixteen great-grandchildren: Dalle Rutledge, Jaela Hardin, Emma Strom, Isaiah Hulbert, Tellsen Hardin, Peyton Hardin, Ella Strom, Samuel Hulbert, Evan Strom, Kyndal Reich, Jace Reich, Addison Hardin, Charlotte Hardin, Margaret Hardin, Alexandra Hardin and Kartar Hardin. Sisters-in-law Donna Sandberg and Arlene Batt. Brother-in-law Larry (Donna) Hulbert. And many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Keith in 1993; a baby daughter, Marla, daughter Juli in 2019; her parents, in-laws, Lewis and Opal Hulbert; three sisters, and two brothers-in-law: Avis (Dwight) Brodhead, Wilma (Maurice) Ford, and Mary Sandberg; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Chris (Verla) Sandberg, Orville “Roy” Sandberg, and Larry (Joyce) Sandberg; sister-in-law Lois Hageman, brother-in-law Marvin Batt, two nieces: Judy Sandberg, and Joy Sandberg-Diffendaffer, and three nephews: Rick Ford, Michael Sandberg and Roger Sandberg.
