Gerald Leroy Parriott, 90, Scottsbluff

Gerald Leroy Parriott, 90, of Scottsbluff, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Central Church of Christ in Gering with Pastor Lyle Hinebauch and Pastor Charles Gwynn officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church. A private family graveside service will be held Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Bayard Cemetery. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Parriott Family and will be designated to support the needs of a fellow missionary currently serving in the Lord’s work.

Gerald was born April 15, 1932, in Bayard, Nebraska to Harold and Vira (Hesseltine) Parriott. He graduated from Bayard High School in Bayard, Nebraska in 1950. Gerald achieved a bachelor’s degree from San Jose Bible College in San Jose, California in 1954. He went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri in 1961. A second master’s was received from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas in 1965. Gerald furthered his education when he received his Honorary Doctorate from a Christian college in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Gerald married Betty Wilson on July 30th, 1954, in San Jose, California and to this union a daughter, Terri, and two sons, Jerry and Jeff, were born.

Gerald ministered in Altoona, Kansas, Holyoke, Colorado, Arlington, South Dakota, Bayard, Nebraska, Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Fairbanks, Alaska, as well as Wyoming, Indiana, Australia, Hawaii, Pharr, TX, and Christian camps across the U.S. He held positions as President, Academic Dean and professor at Iowa Christian College in Des Moines, Iowa, President, Academic Dean and professor at Platte Valley Bible College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Professor at a Christian college in Brisbane, Australia, and Chancellor of Summit Christian College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Gerald Loved the Lord and had a lifetime of service with Betty sharing Christ and building believers.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Parriott; sons, Jerry Parriott and Jeff (Pam) Parriott; granddaughters, Morgan Parriott, Maddison Parriott and Brady Noble; grandson, Mason (Emily) Parriott; great-grandsons, Brackan Noble and Archer Noble; brother, Kenneth (Jo) Parriott; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teresa “Terri” Dawn Parriott; sister, Eunice Willey; brother-in-law, Clinton Willey; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
