WNCC softball to play McCook at regionals

The Western Nebraska Community College softball team will face McCook Community College in the first round of the Region IX tournament that starts Saturday in Trinidad, Colorado.

The Cougar women, 10-25, will face the Indians at 1 p.m. Saturday. If the Cougars win, they will meet the winner of the NJC/Luna contest at 8:30 Saturday night. If WNCC falls to McCook, they will drop to an elimination game at 6 p.m. Saturday against the NJC/Luna loser.

Other first-round contests will pit Otero against Lamar at 8 a.m. on Saturday followed by the NJC and Luna game at 10:30 a.m. Trinidad State, who earned the No. 1 seed, will face the Otero/Lamar winner at 3:30 p.m.

The tournament runs through Tuesday, May 11 for the if-necessary game. The championship game is slated for Monday, May 10 at 12:30 p.m.

The winner advances to the Plains district finals against the Kansas winner May 15-16 at the site of the Region 6 winner. The district winner advances to the NJCAA national tournament May 25-29 in Yuma, Arizona.
