As the academic year comes to a close, several TeamMates matches are celebrat-ing a major milestone— graduation.
This year seven TeamMates mentees will graduate from Gering and Scottsbluff High School. Two Mentees from the Scotts Bluff County TeamMates Mentoring program earned scholarships from the local Scotts Bluff County Chapter to pursue a post-secondary education.
“It is a great feeling and very rewarding to help youth not only reach their full potential by graduating from high school, but to also help them pursue their dreams of a post-secondary education,” said Mary Kay Haun, program coordinator. “None of this would be possible if it weren’t for generous individual donors and organizations who contribute to our local program. We feel very grateful to live in such a wonderful community that supports TeamMates of Scotts Bluff County.”
Katelyn White, a senior TeamMate mentee at Scottsbluff High School is the recipient of a $1,500 Founda-tion Scholarship from Scotts Bluff County TeamMates. Katelyn has been matched with her mentor, Dail Eastman since 2020. Katelyn credits TeamMates with, “Impacting my life by giving me a person to trust, to talk to, and to have nearby. TeamMates accepted me, a young teenage girl with little to no friends, and helped me to learn how to accept others, as well as how to be there for others.” Katelyn plans to attend EWC next year and enroll in the Vet Tech Program.
Nevaeh Hrasky, a senior TeamMate mentee at Gering High School is the recipient of a $1,500 Peg De-ines Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established by the Scotts Bluff County TeamMates Chapter in memory of Peg Deines whose giving spirit was shown in her tireless effort to help others. Ne-vaeh has been matched with her mentor, Glenda Ehler, for the last four years. Nevaeh credits Glenda for, “Helping to shape me into the woman that I am today. She has taught me so many life lessons without even realizing it. I am thankful that I was blessed to get Glenda as my mentor.” Nevaeh plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha and major in Biology or Molecular Biology and minor in Human Devel-opment or Psychobiology. Her goal is to eventually become and OB/GYN.
