A 28-year-old man caught shoplifting at the Scottsbluff Family Dollar is now behind bars on serious drug charges.

Officers made contact with Thomas Salazar of Lafayette, Colorado after a store employee called police. A search of Salazar yielded the discovery of drug paraphernalia, and a subsequent search of the car resulted in the seizure of just under $1,200 and 174 suspected fentanyl bills.

He’s charged with Distribution of an Exceptionally Hazardous Drug and No Drug Tax Stamp, as well facing forefeiture of the cash.

Salazar will be back in court on Thursday for his preliminary hearing, and is being held on a $75,000 bond at 10%.
