More than a thousand people were up before the crack of dawn to convene at the Old Mitchell Air Field for this morning’s Old West Balloon Fest Morning Ascension.
Dozens of balloons launched from there and the Scenic Knolls Golf Course promptly at 7 a.m., filling the clear morning sky with colorful hot air balloons towing a handful of lucky passengers.
Pilots on the ground this morning agreed that the weather was near perfect, a much welcome change from Thursday’s breezy start that cancelled morning flights.
There will be one more mass ascension Saturday morning in Mitchell… and one final Night Glow Saturday night at Five Rocks Amphitheater.
