For more than two decades, John Clanton has been the face of TV sports coverage in the Panhandle.

Starting his career in the early 2000’s at KDUH-TV in Scottsbluff, Clanton covered area high school and collegiate athletes with a passion like none other.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the Scottsbluff station was shutting down as part of a trade between Gray Television Inc. and Legacy Media Group. In turn, Clanton’s position was among that was eliminated overnight.

On Saturday at Scottsbluff High School, the entire Bearcat family honored John for his hard work before he moves and begins his next chapter as the sports director for KNOP in North Platte.

Clanton says that his catch phrase ‘See Ya!’ will remain reserved for the Panhandle, and will not be following him to KNOP.

Every spring, he highlighted some of the area’s best athletes during his ‘Fab 5’ segment to allow viewers to vote on the top area high school athlete of the year. In the fall, John worked tirelessly to cover as many high school football games for highlights for his ‘Friday Night Blitz’ segments.

He says he will be making the move to North Platte in mid-March.
